The Odyssey behind the film
The whole Odyssey, finally readable.
The complete Odyssey, made genuinely readable — the designed edition plus a companion that carries you from the first page to Ithaca without stalling.
Yes — the poem itself is free everywhere. This is the part that isn't: the notes, the map, the character cards, the essays, and the design that make it actually readable.

Instant download. Checkout handled by Gumroad — we never see your card. 30-day refund. EU/UK: VAT added at checkout, shown in your local currency.
Not ready to buy? Start with the free guide — the free 14-page reader preview, by email.
Two ways in: skim the 25-minute Quick Start briefing to get the whole shape fast, or read the full companion to deepen every scene you watched — including the ending the film rewrote. The briefing is your start-tonight on-ramp; the designed edition and notes are yours to keep.
An independent Homer reading companion — not film merchandise, and not affiliated with the studio, director, or cast.

What it gets you out of the film
Follow every jump
The film moves in time. You'll know where each flashback sits in the story, so the structure lands instead of confusing you.
Know who's who
No leaning over to whisper who that is — the gods, the suitors, the son, the wife. You'll recognize them on sight.
Feel the ending
The homecoming and the reckoning carry the weight of twenty years. You'll understand why it lands, not just watch it happen.
This orients you to Homer's poem — the source Nolan adapted. Seen the film? The poem holds the ending it rewrote. Haven't yet? Knowing Homer still won't spoil the film's own choices.
Seen the film? Get the free 14-page reader’s debrief by email — the four movements, the seven people who matter, and the ending Homer actually wrote.

A sample from inside
Book 5 — Calypso Lets Him Go. The hero finally appears — in the fifth book of twenty-four. We find Odysseus where he has been for seven years: weeping on the shore of an island paradise, offered immortality and refusing it. He enters the poem refusing immortality for a mortal wife and a real home — and that refusal sets the terms of the return.
Illustrated throughout
Original art, for the moments that matter.
Not stock images or clip art. Original illustrations run through the edition, drawn in one consistent hand for the recognitions the whole poem builds toward.

Worried about spoilers?
Knowing Homer won't spoil Nolan.
The Odyssey is a 3,000-year-old poem, and a film is an adaptation — Nolan cuts, reorders, and makes his own choices about what to show and how it plays. Knowing the source is what lets you follow the film: who the people are, where you are in the story, and what to watch for — not a scene-by-scene of this version.
Want the lightest touch? Start with the 25-minute Quick Start briefing: it orients you — the shape of the story, the seven people who matter, what carries the weight — without walking you through the ending. Read it tonight, before your first watch or your second.
A fair question
But isn't the Odyssey everywhere already?
The poem is 3,000 years old and has been translated many times — that is exactly the problem. Scattered text, no map, names that shift between Greek and Roman, and nobody to tell you why Book 11 lands the way it does. You are not paying for the words. You are paying for the route: one designed edition, a book-by-book path, 120+ notes, five essays, a journey map, and character cards that carry you from the first page to Ithaca without stalling. That part is not lying around anywhere — it is ours.
And it works with whatever translation you land on — Wilson, Fagles, or the designed Butler edition included here, so you can start reading tonight.
What you're paying for
You're not paying for the words. You're paying for the route.
Nothing here is cut down or missing — it is the full edition. A new hardcover translation runs around $25–30 and a separate study guide another $10–15; this is the designed Odyssey and the whole companion layer — book-by-book path, 120+ notes, five essays, map, and character cards — in one download. Set against that, the price on the button is a rounding error for the poem and the guide to all 24 books.
Why you can trust this edition
- Built and checked against the complete 24-book poem.
- One base translation — Samuel Butler — named throughout.
- Independent and unofficial — not film merchandise.
- Corrections welcomed and noted, never hidden.

Who makes this
A boutique editorial studio.
The Home Pack is made by the Classics Rediscovered team, a boutique studio built on one idea: the classics were not written for students — they were written for survivors. The Odyssey is a map of exile, temptation, and return. We keep the original translation and add back everything that makes it readable — the route, the notes, the maps, the essays — held to a magazine-desk standard you can check yourself. Independent and unofficial. The Odyssey is where we started.
- Built on the complete poem — checked against all 24 books, not a summary
- One named translation — Samuel Butler, cited throughout
- Edited by hand — every note, essay, and map written by people
- Corrections in the open — we fix mistakes and say so
Independent and unofficial. Get something wrong and we fix it and say so — write to hello@odysseycompanion.com.

A note from Classics Rediscovered
We built this after watching smart adults bounce off a 3,000-year-old poem days before a film they cared about. The story is Homer's; the fast, clear route through it is ours. If it doesn't earn its price, email us within 30 days and we'll refund it — no questions.
