Are Odyssey IMAX 70mm Screenings Extended in August 2026?

Selected IMAX 70mm runs of The Odyssey have been extended, but there is no single date that applies to every theater. IMAX confirmed a minimum five-week window for the film presentation. Later reporting described some engagements continuing through September 16.

The useful answer is therefore two-part: the format remains in circulation after its initial weeks, and a seat in a particular city still requires a live venue check.

What IMAX confirmed

IMAX's July 20 opening-weekend release said that The Odyssey would play at IMAX 70mm locations for at least five weeks. It identified 41 locations worldwide at opening and noted sellouts deep into the run.

That statement establishes a company-confirmed minimum exhibition window. It does not promise that all 41 locations will show the film every day, at the same times, or for exactly the same number of weeks.

The release also distinguished the rare film presentation from the much larger digital IMAX network. That distinction matters when a theater page simply says "IMAX."

What the later extension report adds

GamesRadar reported on July 31 that IMAX 70mm screenings had received a nearly 30-day extension, with the reported window running through September 16. The article attributed that date to separate trade reporting and connected the extension to continued sellouts.

That is credible evidence of an extended run, but it is a secondary report, not a universal theater schedule. Its safest use is: selected IMAX 70mm engagements were reported to continue into September.

It should not be rewritten as "every theater is guaranteed through September 16." Print routing, local contracts, maintenance, and competing bookings can produce different calendars.

Why a live schedule can still look empty

Theaters often release sessions in blocks. A blank week may mean dates have not opened yet; it does not prove that the run has ended.

The reverse is also possible. A broad extension announcement does not force an individual venue to add sessions. The venue may have fewer showtimes, sell out quickly, or move the print.

1. the theater's own booking page;
2. the exact date and showtime;
